A Field Test Review of Ghost Golf's First Sunday Bag: The Weekender
Welcome back to the Great Golf Blog! Today, we're diving into something special: the Ghost Weekender Sunday Golf bag in the striking Oreo colorway. This is Ghost's first foray into the "Sunday" style golf bag market, designed to carry fewer clubs and provide a lightweight, easy-to-carry option for those quick rounds, par 3 courses, and trips to the range. Let's see if this bag lives up to the hype!
Tech Specs: The Weekender Bag from Ghost Golf
I’ve been impressed with the design and functionality of Ghost bags from the time I first got my hands on their Anyday 5.0 hybrid golf bag, and the Weekender did not disappoint. The bag’s basic design is very similar to the larger Anyday, but in a smaller package. It still features some of my favorite elements with the quick access magnetic pocket, insulated beverage cooler, felt-lined valuables pouch and comfortable carry strap. Despite less overall storage, there’s ample room for anything you’d need for an efficient walk.
Available in 4 colorways (Oreo, Maverick, Katana, and Patriot), the design isn’t minimalistic like the Jones Trouper but not overly flashy either. It’s a handsome, conservative design that is eye-catching without being distracting, made with high quality materials and thoughtful features. Let’s take a closer look at the specs.
Weight: At just 4.1 pounds, the Ghost Weekender is exceptionally lightweight, making it easy to carry for extended periods without causing fatigue.
Club Capacity: Designed to hold 8 clubs plus a putter, this bag is perfect for those who like a quick walk, par 3 courses or a range session where you don’t need your full 14-club set.
Material: Constructed from high-quality PU leather, the bag is durable and built to withstand various weather conditions. Stains will wipe right off the synthetic leather, keeping it looking great round after round
Colorway: The oreo colorway combines black and white accents for a sleek, modern look that stands out on the course. The color scheme is not only stylish but also practical, hiding dirt and wear effectively.
Dimensions: 33”H x 10”L x 9.5”W with an opening circumference of 23”.
Compartments & Pockets: 3-way full length dividers + 6 pockets (3 insulated cooler pockets & a valuables pouch).
Pockets & Storage
One concern with Sunday golf bags is their condensed space inside the compartment can lead to “grip grab” when pulling clubs out of the bag. Ghost solves this with a 3-way divider and fully enclosed liners, keeping your clubs organized and protected during the round. I had 10 clubs for my field test, which might have been a slight overpack, and still didn’t experience much grab or pull when taking clubs out and putting them back in.
The Weekender features 6 total pockets. There are two storage pockets on the front, one for balls and accessories and another with a magnetic closure to hold quick-access items like a range finder or your phone. The front also features a large insulated beverage sleeve that can easily hold a couple cans of your favorite drink.
The sides are symmetric, featuring two larger storage compartments towards the bottom of the bag, and two smaller compartments on top (one of which is lined with felt to protect your valuables). There are also two insulated beverage sleeves for your water bottle on the outside of those larger storage compartments.
Stand & Carry
The bag features a traditional stand mechanism which I found to be a bit sticky at first as the legs didn’t pop back up as smoothly as I would have liked. But the more I used it, the better this got so I think over time, that will not be an issue. The stand's legs are reinforced to ensure stability and durability, and I had no issues standing it up even on the severe slopes of the course.
As a Sunday bag, there is a single strap as opposed to a backpack strap which you don’t really see in Sunday bags. The single strap was padded and comfortable, and I was able to adjust it to help balance the bag on my shoulder. There was a bit of top-heaviness, which golfers with longer, heavier woods might find distracting, or at least require some tinkering with the adjustment to counteract. There’s a convenient handle at the top of the bag which is useful when you need to move the bag a short distance or reposition it on the tee box or around the green. Overall, the bag is easy to carry, lightweight and maneuverable.
There’s also a ring on the side for attaching accessories like Ghost’s signature magnetic towel, or for clipping on a blue tooth speaker. Overall, the Ghost Weekender bag's technical specifications highlight its thoughtful design and high-quality construction, making it an excellent choice for golfers who value both performance and aesthetics.
The Field Test: How Does the Weekender Carry Over 9 Holes?
Taking the Ghost Weekender bag out on the course was a delight. I opted for a nine-hole round to really get a feel for how this bag performs in a typical golfing scenario. Carrying the bag was a breeze – it’s so light that you almost forget it’s there, which is a huge plus for anyone looking to reduce the strain on their back and shoulders.
I also appreciate how the reduced club capacity of Sunday bags encourages creativity and strategic shot-making, forcing golfers to think their way around the course and learn how to hit shots with different angles and shapes. The real test came with how I had to adapt my game. With only 8 clubs, I found myself getting creative with shot selection. It was a fun challenge, figuring out how to hit a lower-flight punch shot with my 5 iron or executing a bump and run with my 9 iron. This bag truly encourages you to think outside the box and make the most of the clubs you have.
The pockets provided ample storage for my balls, tees, and even a light jacket. The stand mechanism worked flawlessly, keeping the bag upright and easily accessible at all times. By the end of the round, I was thoroughly impressed with how the Weekender enhanced my golfing experience.
Final Thoughts on Ghost Golf’s First Sunday Bag, The Weekender
Reflecting on my time with the Ghost Weekender bag, it’s clear that this is a fantastic option for golfers who enjoy lighter, shorter rounds. The quality and thought put into the design are evident from the moment you unbox it to the last hole you play.
Pros:
- Extremely lightweight and easy to carry
- Stylish oreo colorway that stands out
- Encourages creative shot-making with a limited club selection
- Well-placed pockets and durable materials
Cons:
- Limited to carrying 8 clubs, which might not suit every round or player
- Heavier than a traditional Sunday style bag, which typically hold 6 clubs
- Players with longer clubs might notice some top heaviness when carrying the bag, requiring adjustment to the carry straps
Overall, the Ghost Weekender bag makes for a great second bag for avid golfers who enjoy walking, or a great starter bag for someone new to the game. If you’re looking for a bag that combines style, functionality, and encourages you to get creative on the course, this is definitely one to consider.
